Read from the excerpt

Musicians have a lot of female fans and admirers. How have you been coping with that?

They are welcome to be his fans and they can also admire him. My husband is a very good looking man; a super star and hard-working person. They can like and admire him though from a distance because if you come too close they will be burnt by the ‘fire of the Holy Ghost’.

My husband looks good and nice all the time and that has cost me a lot of time and affection. But on a lighter note, I have never been bothered about my husband’s so-called admirers. I love and respect his fans. I did not marry anybody’s husband. I married the husband of my youth, and God has lightened my path all the way.

What has been sustaining your marriage?

I would like to thank God because He is responsible for sustaining our marriage. Perseverance and tolerance also help. Above all, trust is key. I and my hubby trust each other.

‘Stop cursing my son, husband’, Toyin Abraham tells Lizzy Anjorin

6

Toyin Abraham, with teary eyes, has cleared the air about her frosty relationship with her colleague, Lizzy Anjorin.

The misunderstanding between the duo began in September 2019 when an Instagram blog reported that Anjorin was ‘held and searched for drug peddling’ during her hajj trip to Saudi Arabia.

After her ordeal, it was gathered that Anjorin’s investigations revealed that Toyin Abraham ‘leaked’ the story to blogs.

Ever since then, the pair has had a sour relationship.

Recently, the old wound was reopened during an interview Anjorin had with a social media influencer, Esabod.

It appears, during the interview, some abusive words were said toward Abraham’s husband and son.

Reacting to the incident, Abraham, during an Instagram Live session with her colleague, Iyabo Ojo, cleared the air.

Abraham noted that she was not the person that reported Anjorin to the law enforcement agents as she held a Bible to prove her innocence.

She said, “Since I gave birth to my child, you have been bullying him. Let the whole mothers in this world come out and blame me for this single thing that I stood up for my son. Let the whole world blame me for this.

“I did not talk or say anything, but for this, I will stand up for my son. When the incident happened with Liz Anjorin, I did not know about it because it was during that time that I put to bed. They did not let me have my phone because I had just delivered my baby.

“It was after about two months that they gave me my phone and I saw all the messages, and hers was part of it. This is the Holy Bible that I am holding; let the Holy Bible judge me.

“It is so funny because Lizzy is not my friend and I do not know her; Saudi or no Saudi, I have never heard of it. How do I know her movement?”

Abraham further stated that although Anjorin is her colleague in the movie industry, their paths have only crossed twice. She insisted that she had never spilled the beans of her colleagues to any blogger as alleged by Anjorin.

She said, “What is my own with Lizzy. I have seen Lizzy just twice in my life. The first time was at Regina Chukwu’s job and the second time was at Wasilat Coded’s premiere. I do not know about her movement and God is my witness. I have only seen her twice.

“I do not know about her movement. I am speaking up now, let the whole world hear. I am speaking up because of my son. The last one they did, I could not talk because I just gave birth; but now, I have to talk and speak up for my son. They cannot lay curses on my son. Besides, if I do not stand up for my son, who will stand up for my son?

“Since the day they have been cursing me and peddling rumours about me, I never said a word; but today, it was too much and I need to stand up for my son. I have never spoken to any blogger. I have never spoken to a blogger to run anyone down.”

The filmmaker noted that she is blessed and contented with her life and, therefore, has no reason to wish her colleague bad.

She said, “My husband and I have two houses. We live in our own house and we have another in Ibadan. God has blessed us; I am not beefing anyone and I do not have a problem with anybody. God is my witness. I do not know where all this is coming from. I have never spoken about this but I want every parent on earth to judge this matter. They should ask Lizzy to state what I did; she should talk. If I offended you, call me.

“That woman kept cursing my son and husband. You can curse me but do not curse my son. I have never discussed Lizzy’s matter with anyone; we are not friends. God see me. I have never done that in my life. The reason why I had to speak up is because it is becoming too much and this is my son they are talking about. I have to speak up for my son.

“If I cannot speak up for my son and husband, then why am I a mother or a wife? I have never had any negative thoughts towards anyone.”

Rivers vigilante allegedly kills 22-year-old painter at PoS centre

3

The family of a 22-year-old painter, Chinemerem Orji, has called for justice after he was allegedly shot dead by a local vigilante in Umebele, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Saturday.

The deceased’s elder sister, Kelechi, who spoke to Punch correspondent on Monday, said her brother had gone to a Point of Sale terminal operator to withdraw money sent to him, adding that trouble started when he discovered that one of the notes given to him was a counterfeit.

Kelechi said during the ensuing argument, the PoS operator called members of the Oyigbo Security Peace Advisory Committee, who on arrival, compounded the situation and tried to drag his brother to their office near a police station and stabbed him with a dagger.

She stated, “My brother was with his girlfriend, who said she didn’t have any money, but needed cash to go out. So, he called his friend to send N1,500 to his account, which was done. He went to the PoS operator to withdraw the money. After withdrawing the money, he found out that the N1,000 note was counterfeit. So, he went back and asked the PoS operator to change it, but he refused.

“As they were arguing, the PoS operator called the OSPAC vigilantes. They came and tried to force my brother to mount their motorcycle.

“They were dragging him to follow them to their office, but he said he wasn’t going with them, because he didn’t commit any crime. He was just asking the guy to change the money for him.”

She added, “The other members came and dragged him and in the process, one of them brought out a dagger and stabbed him in his two hands and body. One of them, who was on a motorcycle, disembarked and shot my brother in the back.

“They took his body to their office and called me on the phone. Already, my mum had gone to the police station, because she didn’t know the OSPAC office.

“When she came back, I was already at home. So, I went to the police station.”

Kelechi said while at the station, a female cop asked her if the station was a hospital .

She stated, “I finally traced the OSPAC office, but I couldn’t go in because the place was not looking safe. So, I called my mum to come. I thought that when they see her they would allow us to see Chinemerem, but they chased us away.

“All of a sudden, the OSPAC guys started coming out from their office one after another and started chasing us that we should leave the street. They started threatening us with guns. While we were there, an ambulance came to their office.

“My mum, my brother’s girlfriend and I refused to go. One of them came and shot in the ground. I dragged my mum and we ran. Some people, who saw what happened, came to hold my mum. We were there when the ambulance took the body out. Up till now, we have not seen his corpse.”

Asked what they were told at the police station in Oyigbo, she said, “They didn’t even tell us anything reasonable. They only told us to come back the following day. We are asking for justice. I want to see my brother’s corpse and let them identify the man, who shot him and make him to face the law. We want help from the government and the public.”

When contacted, the spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, said he had yet to get the report of the incident, but promised, “I will find out from the Divisional Police Officer and get back to you.”

My late husband dreamt of plane crash a day earlier – Pilot’s widow

3

Jennifer Olufade, the widow of Flt Lt Alfred Olufade, the pilot of the ill-fated aircraft that killed 11 military officers, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, in Kaduna on Friday, said the late pilot dreamt of the crash a day earlier.

Jennifer, who got married to the late pilot three months ago, disclosed this in an emotion-laden tribute to her husband which she posted on her Instagram page, @joba_star, on Monday.

She said she prayed with her husband when he woke up and narrated the bad dream to her.

She added that after the dream, her husband made successful trips to Enugu and Owerri and returned to Abuja.

Jennifer said when she received a message from him that they were again heading to Kaduna, she tried reaching him to dissuade him from embarking on the trip but without success.

She wrote, “Oh sparkle, you left me so early. Oh, my best friend, where do I start from? I am broken and pierced, my heart aches. This wasn’t what you promised me; you said you will always be there for me.

“On 20th of May, at about 4am, you woke me up with fear and said ‘baby, baby, I had a bad dream. I dreamt that I crashed on my way to Kaduna.’ You said it looked very real. I prayed for you seriously that morning and asked you not to worry and asked you your mission order and who you were flying with and you told me Flt. Lt Asaniyi.
“I said ‘don’t worry, you will go and come back.’ You went to Enugu, Owerri and back to Abuja. We did video call and also spoke at length and you were just smiling. Little did I know that was your last smile.

“The next message I received was that you were going to Kaduna. My heart shattered, I smelt danger, I started calling you, you didn’t pick. Why didn’t you pick? Why? I wanted begging you not to go.

“These three months have been heaven for me. We eat together in the same plate, we prayed together, we laughed and cried together. This wasn’t the plan you had for me.

“You said you will always be my side. It is still like a dream that I can’t see you. I know you are coming back to me. All I see is condolence messages. How do I stand them? Reading them pierces my heart even more.

“I feel like a failure, I couldn’t stop you, I couldn’t stop Asaniyi, oh my God, Oh My God. You saw this.

Similarly, a childhood friend of late Olufade, Esther David, in an interview with The Punch, described the late pilot as a gentle and easy going man.

“He was my very good friend. We were close, very close. I am still in shock; I wish it is all a dream. I haven’t been able to sleep since Friday,” she said.

Zimbabwe chief orders Mugabe remains to be exhumed for reburial at heroes’ shrine

2

The family of Robert Mugabe have been ordered to exhume the remains of the late dictator for reburial at a monument to Zimbabwe’s national heroes, in a move likely to rekindle a row over the memory of one of Africa’s foremost revolutionary leaders.

A traditional chief made the order after accusing Mugabe’s second wife, Grace, of breaking local custom by interring him at his rural home.

Mugabe, whose increasingly authoritarian 37-year rule was ended by a coup in November 2017, was buried at his village of Kutama in 2019 after weeks of dispute with the government of his successor, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Senior officials had made it clear they wanted the remains of the former dictator to be buried at Zimbabwe’s national heroes’ shrine outside Harare and may now get their way.

Though much of Mugabe’s rule was marked by violence, economic mismanagement and corruption, the former guerrilla fighter is still revered as a liberation leader for his role in the war against white supremacist rule. His funeral in Harare was attended by dozens of current and former heads of state from across Africa.

Mnangagwa was a close aide and ally of Mugabe and has sought to reinforce his own image through association with the former revolutionary leader. Much of the legitimacy of the ruling Zanu-PF party relies on the legacy of the late president.

Chief Zvimba, whose district includes Kutama, said he had received a complaint from a Mugabe clan member over the manner of his burial.

How I survived rocket attack in Israel -Ex-Nigerian footballer, Ogbonna

4

Retired Nigerian footballer Ibezito Ogbonna is recuperating after sustaining minor injuries after his apartment in the Israeli city of Ashdod was hit by a rocket fired from Gaza last week.

The 38-year-old, who won the Israeli Cup with Hapoel Tel Aviv in 2006 and 2007, was at home with his wife and two young daughters when the building suffered a direct hit.

According to BBC Sport Africa, Ogbonna’s family were unhurt, but the former Enyimba striker was injured and taken to hospital after injuries he sustained during the explosion, following recent fighting between Israel and Gaza.

“I am extremely lucky to be alive after this rocket was fired and it’s third time lucky for me after being involved in a car crash and a horrible robbery incident in Nigeria,” Ogbonna told BBC Sport Africa.

“We were all aware of the attempt (possible strike) and we always get the warning signs about possible missiles. We often hear as sirens echoed across the city streets which tends to prompt people to rush to a shelter.
“On this day, I was having breakfast and I heard the wailing siren. Normally, we’d run to the shelter because every house has its own shelter. I felt it’s the normal warning, but within seconds it turned out to be an unlucky day for me.

“I heard the loud bang of the rocket and felt the immediate impact, I was thrown into the air and it took me from my dining room to my living room.

“I could see glasses and other objects flying around me. I hit the ground, I stood up to look around for my family. They were very lucky too, my wife had taken cover with my daughters, I think one of the doors landed on her.

“I could see the whole building was gone. We are talking about a four-storey building with about 30 people. The security doors between my kitchen and living room ripped out and everything totally wrecked.

“Cars were smashed and it was then I realised I had a cut and my knee was hurting badly before the paramedics took me in an ambulance to the hospital.

“I was in the hospital for a few hours. I was treated and had different tests just to check that everything was okay with me. They weren’t sure I was fine considering what had happened.”

Ogbonna added, “It’s difficult to explain the impact of what I saw. Coming out of this alive was a complete miracle. We are talking about the same attack that has left several people badly wounded.
“We’ve had casualties since this thing started, but you are just grateful to be alive and not listed among the dead.

“A lot of families have been left homeless with their possessions destroyed and a place they’ve always called home flattened.”

With no home to return to, the Ogbonnas and 13 other families are now staying at a hotel as the Israeli government look to resettle them.

Ogbonna said fans of his former Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv have rallied round to support him.

He scored 40 goals in 132 appearances for Happen, Israel’s second most successful side, and the club’s supporters have launched a fund-raising campaign to help him get back on his feet.

“Hapoel Tel Aviv fans have been incredibly amazing, without my knowledge they had started a fund raising to help support me,” Ogbonna added.

“As soon as the news broke that my apartment was hit, they started reaching out and calling my phone. I didn’t ask them for anything yet they were offering to help.

“I remember one of them got my contact and I think he put it out on the fan page for other supporters to reach out. Messages of love, prayers, and unbelievable support from a club I left over a decade ago.

“Some were telling me to come over to theirs if I had no place to stay. They’ve gone out to buy stuff and clothes for me and my family.

“I was getting deliveries of different things at the hotel without even knowing about it. I don’t even know these guys. It’s a massive love and I can’t thank them enough.

“It’s another proof that wherever you find yourself as a footballer or whatever you do, be a good person and respect everyone because you never know when life will bring you back again.”
