The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, along with three other key officers, for one month

In a statement issued on Saturday after the party’s 608th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, the PDP announced that National Organising Secretary Hon. Umar Bature, National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and Deputy National Legal Adviser Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha were also affected by the suspension.

The statement explained that the four officials have been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action, and during the suspension period, they will cease to function in their respective capacities.

Citing Section 36(2) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the party said the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo, will serve as Acting National Secretary. It added that the National Director of Legal Services will temporarily oversee the functions of the suspended Legal Adviser and Deputy Legal Adviser.

Meanwhile, the PDP also reacted to a recent judgment delivered by the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Kolawole Omotosho, describing it as a blow to Nigeria’s democratic process.

According to National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the court’s ruling does not affect the party’s preparations for its upcoming National Convention, where new national officers will be elected to lead the party for the next four years.

He further referenced a recent Supreme Court judgment reaffirming the right of political parties to manage their internal affairs, urging members and party organs to remain focused on the convention.

“The PDP remains committed to the rule of law,” Ologunagba stated. “Our legal team has been directed to immediately appeal the judgment as part of our firm resolve to defend and promote multi-party democracy in Nigeria.”
