Afrobeats artist Young John recently shared insights into his background and personal life during an interview with Saige Jones.
The producer-turned-singer revealed his roots in a deeply religious household, with both parents serving as pastors.
Young John explained, “I grew up in a religious home. Both my mum and dad were pastors. My mum had a school. She was a psychologist.” He added that his musical journey began in the church, where he played drums and keyboard.
The artist reflected on how his childhood experiences shaped his view of love. “When I was really young, I believed in love so much because of what I used to see between my parents,” he said. However, he noted that his perspective changed as he grew older and experienced the wider world.
Young John also touched on a personal tragedy, sharing that he lost his mother to cancer. “My mum is late now. We lost her to cancer. It happened a while ago. I’m over it now,” he stated, indicating that he has come to terms with the loss.
