French President Emmanuel Macron faced online ridicule after congratulating President-Elect Donald Trump with a choice of words that many found amusing.
Macron, 46, joined other world leaders in posting on X to acknowledge Trump’s win over Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Congratulations President @realDonaldTrump,” Macron wrote, addressing Trump by his handle. “Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition for more peace and prosperity.”
However, Macron’s use of the word “convictions” quickly sparked reactions online, as Trump has been convicted of multiple felonies.
Some users humorously labeled Macron a “boss-level troll” for the unintended irony in his message.
