In an interview with The Free Press, Badenoch alleged that officers of the Nigeria Police Force once stole her brother’s watch and shoes. Her remarks have sparked backlash from several Nigerians, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who criticized her negative portrayal of the country.

Badenoch remarked, “Giving people a gun is just a license to intimidate,” as she recounted her unfavorable encounters with the Nigerian police. She contrasted this with a positive experience with British police after moving to the UK, highlighting their professionalism during a burglary incident in 2004.

“The police in Nigeria will rob us,” she stated, reflecting on the challenges posed by insecurity and systemic issues in Nigeria. Recalling her brother’s experience, she added, “The police stole my brother’s shoes and his watch.”

In contrast, Badenoch praised the British police for their support, stating, “They were helpful before they eventually caught the person.”
