National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has stated that President Bola Tinubu inherited an “extremely bad government,” in an apparent reference to the Muhammadu Buhari administration

He urged Nigerians to be patient, noting that fixing the country’s challenges—particularly insecurity—will take time.
Speaking at a security stakeholders’ meeting at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, Ribadu expressed sympathy over the recent wave of killings and attacks in the state. He assured the people of the government’s commitment to restoring peace.
“We will defeat it. The entire country is with you,” Ribadu said. “I commiserate with the people of Benue and assure you that this is a trying period for all of us, but we are 100 percent with you.”
He stressed the strategic importance of Benue in Nigeria’s security landscape, promising intensified efforts to maintain peace in the state.
“Benue is an extremely important state to Nigeria. We must fight and maintain Benue as a peaceful state. The Governor is doing well and we will support him,” he added.
Acknowledging the limitations of deploying security personnel to every community, Ribadu praised the armed forces for their performance and urged stakeholders to avoid politicising the crisis.
“Our armed forces are doing well. It’s impossible to post security to every hamlet. What we need is support and for people to stop politicising the killings. That will help us restore peace,” he said.
Ribadu maintained that the Tinubu administration had made significant progress in tackling insecurity since taking over.
“We inherited an extremely bad government. Things have improved. We’re addressing the issues. To do harm is easy, but to fix things takes time. We have considerably reduced the level of violence we met. This, too, we will confront,” he stated.
His remarks come as insecurity continues to escalate in Benue and other regions, prompting calls for swift and effective government action.
