A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered that popular hip-hop artist, Terry Alexander Ejeh, known as Terry Apala, be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the singer on Friday before Justice Akintayo Aluko on a one-count charge of tampering with the naira. According to the charge, Terry Apala allegedly danced on naira notes during a social event held at Madison Place, Oniru, Lagos Island, on January 5, 2025.
EFCC counsel, Sulaimon Sulaiman, asked the court to proceed with the arraignment so the defendant could take his plea. Terry Apala pleaded not guilty to the charge, prompting the prosecution to request a trial date and his remand.
However, the singer’s lawyer, Felix Nwakbudu, informed the court of a pending bail application, stating that the EFCC had already been served. He appealed to the court to allow him to move the application.
Sulaiman objected, arguing that he had just received the bail documents in court and required time to respond appropriately.
Ruling on the matter, Justice Aluko ordered that Terry Apala be held in custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre until his bail application is heard and decided. The judge also called for an e xpedited hearing and adjourned the case to May 5, 2025.
The charge against the artist reads:
“That you, TERRY ALEXANDER EJEH, on the 5th day of January 2025 at Madison Place, Oniru, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with Naira currency issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by matching on it, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007.”
