Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on reaching the midpoint of his first term, praising his leadership and calling on Nigerians to support the administration’s ongoing reform efforts

In a statement released on May 28, 2025, and signed by his spokesman Garba Shehu, Buhari described leadership as a “continuous journey” that demands patience and perseverance, especially when implementing meaningful reforms.
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) marks two years in office under Tinubu, Buhari cautioned against allowing “nettlesome domestic politics” to derail the government’s plans, noting that real change requires time.
The former president also threw his weight behind Tinubu’s push to tackle poverty and inflation, acknowledging the severe impact these issues have had on the country’s most vulnerable populations.
“Reducing poverty and inflation is a massive task that must not be left to the government alone. The private sector and all of us as citizens must join in all ways we can,” Buhari said.
He urged Nigerians to stay hopeful and committed to the country’s future, adding, “Our expectations from our governments should not get heavy.”
Buhari ended his message with a personal note to Tinubu: “I am wishing President Tinubu heartfelt congratulations on his two years in office. May you keep leading with wisdom and care.”
