Speaking during his Democracy Day address on Thursday, Tinubu had mocked the opposition, saying it was a “delight” to watch them in disarray. He added, “I won’t ask you to put your house in order, and I won’t help you do it either.”

He also dismissed claims that his administration is pushing Nigeria toward a one-party state, following a wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting after the Democracy Day ceremony at the National Assembly, Saraki acknowledged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is indeed facing internal challenges. He called on members of the PDP and other opposition groups to take responsibility for rebuilding their structures.

“I think we must take him at his word,” Saraki said. “He spoke well, stating that he’s not in support of a one-party system. That means we’re on the same page—Nigeria needs a strong multi-party democracy.

“That’s why we’re mobilizing and reaching out. For those who say they’re under pressure, there’s no pressure anymore. As the President has said, he won’t help us fix our party, so we have to do the work ourselves,” he added.
