Tinubu awards employment, N250k, scholarships to 200 NYSC graduates

President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate employment of 200 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) award recipients into the federal civil service

Each awardee will also receive ₦250,000 and a scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at any Nigerian university. The announcement was made in Abuja on Tuesday during the combined President’s NYSC Honours Award Ceremony for 2020 to 2023. Tinubu was represented at the event by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

The president praised the honourees for their “discipline, commitment, selflessness, teamwork, patriotism, and integrity,” directing the Head of the Civil Service and the Federal Civil Service Commission to begin the recruitment process immediately.

Additionally, Tinubu ordered the employment of 10 physically challenged ex-corps members who sustained injuries during their service year, stating: “We will never forget their sacrifice.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth development, Tinubu said his government is prioritizing education, job creation, and technology empowerment to position young Nigerians at the center of national growth.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended the president’s dedication to young people, noting that the recent increase in NYSC allowances—from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000—reflects the government’s recognition of their contribution to nation-building.

NYSC Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, described the honourees as “heroes of our Republic,” highlighting their selection through a rigorous process based on service records, community impact, and civic engagement.

He also honored four corps members who died in active service and ten others who were permanently injured. According to Nafiu, over 6,000 medical personnel were deployed in 2023 to provide healthcare in underserved communities, and more than four million people have benefitted from the NYSC’s rural health outreach.

“The NYSC is actively shaping lives and building the nation from the ground up,” he said.
