The man was a visitor to the Whitney, according to the museum.
“We are devastated that a visitor lost their life. Our thoughts are with their family and friends, and with our staff, visitors and neighbors who were nearby when it occurred,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
“We are in close contact with the authorities and assisting in any way we can. The Whitney will open on a delayed schedule at 12 pm tomorrow, Thursday, July 31st.”
An investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.
