Ademola Lookman was involved in a heated clash with Atalanta manager Ivan Juric during Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Marseille, which the Italian side won 1-0
The 28-year-old winger was substituted in the 75th minute with the score still 0-0, and appeared visibly frustrated as he left the pitch.

The situation escalated when Juric grabbed Lookman during their exchange of words, prompting CEO Luca Percassi and teammate Marten de Roon to step in and calm tensions.
Lookman looked stunned and angered by the physical contact, and the pair reportedly spoke again after the game, though it remains unclear whether it was to reconcile or continue the dispute, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
This incident adds to Lookman’s history of high-profile clashes at Atalanta. Since joining the club in 2022, the former Everton and RB Leipzig winger has become a key player, scoring 40 goals in 99 appearances, including a Europa League final hat-trick.
Earlier this year, he was at the centre of a public spat with then-coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who criticized him after a Champions League defeat to Club Brugge, calling him “one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen.” Lookman responded on social media, describing the criticism as “deeply disrespectful” despite his dedication and hard work for the club and its fans.
Tensions also flared during the summer transfer window, when Lookman sought a move away from Atalanta. Inter Milan reportedly offered £32 million, with additional interest from PSG and other top clubs. Lookman publicly criticized the club for blocking the move, citing months of broken promises and unfair treatment. The transfer ultimately fell through, and he has since returned to the squad, featuring in eight matches this season.
The latest confrontation with Juric has intensified speculation that a January transfer could be the best solution for all parties. Despite the drama, Lookman remains one of Atalanta’s most important players, having revived his career since leaving England, where a £7.5 million move to Everton failed to flourish.
Lookman began his career at Charlton Athletic, represented England at youth levels, and later switched allegiance to Nigeria at senior level. His £13 million move to Atalanta has proven a bargain, though his future may depend on whether he can repair his relationship with Juric in the weeks ahead.
