Nigeria has become the focus of a new offshore oil discovery following confirmation from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) of a successful well drilled by Chevron Nigeria Limited in the western Niger Delta
The discovery stems from the Awodi-07 appraisal and exploration well, operated by Chevron in partnership with NNPC Ltd, during drilling activities carried out between late November and mid-December 2025.
Located in shallow offshore waters, the well revealed hydrocarbons across multiple reservoir layers, indicating significant fresh oil and gas potential in the area. The drilling operation was completed safely, fully meeting regulatory standards, and the well was secured after the exploration phase concluded.
NNPC Ltd said the discovery reinforces confidence in the asset and supports plans to expand oil production, strengthen energy supply, and create economic value through the joint venture, which targets a production output of approximately 146,000 barrels per day.
