Beautiful Nubia accuses Yinka Ayefele and BBO of copying melody

Beautiful Nubia has accused gospel musicians Yinka Ayefele and BBO of copying the melody of his iconic 1997 song Seven Lifes without permission

The singer, whose real name is Segun Akinlolu, shared his frustration on Thursday via his X account, highlighting what he described as repeated copyright violations by fellow Nigerian artists.

Beautiful Nubia pointed to Yinka Ayefele’s 2012 song My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti) and BBO’s 2026 release Amin, claiming that both tracks borrowed heavily from the melody of Seven Lifes.

“There was Yinka Ayefele with ‘My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)’ in 2012 and now someone called BBO with ‘Amin’ this year. Both stole their melodies from our original song ‘Seven Lifes,’” he wrote.

He further criticized Nigerian musicians, particularly in the gospel scene, for failing to respect intellectual property rights, asking, “When will Nigerians (especially the so-called gospel musicians) learn to respect copyright?”

As of now, neither Yinka Ayefele nor BBO has publicly responded to the allegations.

    • What do you mean, rest oga?It is totally wrong to do that to his sound. He didn’t say he is suing them, he just need them to acknowledge that they used his sound. There is a place for acknowledgment when you want to use people’s intellectual property, they should publicly apologize to him if they don’t want to be sued. And by the way, they will pay heavy fine for it if they don’t apologize.
