The Nigeria Police Force has responded to allegations of assault made by influencer Papaya Ex following an encounter in the Ajah area of Lagos
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin explained that the incident occurred shortly before 2am during a routine night patrol. According to him, officers stopped a vehicle conveying three men and two women and requested to conduct a search.
He alleged that one of the occupants refused, insisting, “You cannot search my car. Don’t you know Papaya? Even your bosses know me.”
Hundeyin stated that after the initial refusal, the occupants agreed to proceed to the police station, with an officer sitting in their vehicle while the patrol van followed behind. He claimed that the driver was later instructed to speed off, leaving the patrol team behind and prompting officers to radio another patrol unit ahead to intercept the vehicle. He said the livestream began during the interception.
The police spokesperson added that the Lagos State Police Command will further investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
