Former Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2024 Edo State election, Olumide Akpata, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new chapter in his political journey
Akpata was welcomed into the party by the Edo State Chairman of the ADC, Kennedy Odion, in the presence of prominent figures including former Edo governors John Odigie-Oyegun and Oserheimen Osunbor.

Also at the event were former Senate Chief Whip Roland Owie, House of Representatives member for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency Murphy Omoruyi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
After receiving his ADC membership card, Akpata explained that his decision was influenced by Obi’s move to the party on December 31, 2025. He said he was motivated by the desire to actively contribute to the party’s expansion and to support the broader goal of building a new Nigeria.
He expressed gratitude to the ADC leadership for the reception accorded him and commended the Obidient Movement for remaining steadfast and focused.
In his address, Obi restated his dedication to what he described as the struggle for a better Nigeria. “Our commitment to a new Nigeria is total, even though they are doing everything possible to stop us.” He maintained that the country must be restructured to serve all citizens rather than a select few, adding that Nigeria needs to shift from a consumption-based economy to one driven by production.
