The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has refuted claims that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, suffered nose bleeding while in its custody

The agency dismissed the allegation made by El-Rufai’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adekeye, maintaining that the former governor did not encounter any medical issues during his time in detention.

El-Rufai has remained in ICPC custody since February 18, following his release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he had previously spent two nights. His transfer and continued detention have generated legal and political debate.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Adekeye said El-Rufai’s lawyers had not been shown any valid remand order permitting authorities to hold him beyond the constitutionally allowed 48 hours without formal charges. He further alleged that members of the former governor’s legal team and family were encountering obstacles in their efforts to see him.

The ICPC has not publicly outlined the specific allegations that led to El-Rufai’s arrest, as supporters continue to demand adherence to due process and greater transparency.

Observers note that the disagreement between the anti-corruption agency and El-Rufai’s camp highlights wider concerns about detention practices and the protection of suspects’ rights within Nigeria’s justice system.
