Nigerian-born UFC star Israel Adesanya’s struggles continue after a second-round knockout loss to Joe Pyfer in the UFC Seattle main event on Saturday, March 28.

The defeat marks his fourth consecutive loss, raising serious questions about the future of the former two-time middleweight champion.

Adesanya started the fight strong, showcasing the striking skill that once made him one of the UFC’s most dominant fighters. He controlled the opening round with sharp, precise attacks, giving fans hope he could end his losing streak.

But the momentum shifted quickly in round two. Pyfer, 29, increased the pace, landing powerful strikes that pushed Adesanya onto the defensive. After securing a decisive takedown, Pyfer controlled the fight on the ground, landing multiple unanswered blows. With 42 seconds left in the round, referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight.

This latest defeat follows a difficult period for Adesanya. After reclaiming the middleweight title with a knockout over Alex Pereira at UFC 287 in April 2023, he lost the belt to Sean Strickland at UFC 293. Subsequent losses to Dricus du Plessis and Nassourdine Imavov have extended his slump, culminating in this latest setback.

Once hailed for his precision striking, confidence, and dominance, Adesanya now faces a critical crossroads in his career. After four straight defeats, the 35-year-old will need to reevaluate his path if he hopes to return to elite form.
