Nigerian comedian and content creator Layi Wasabi has opened up about his personal approach to relationships, making it clear that he is not interested in casual dating or undefined romantic situations.
According to the skit maker, he does not believe in dating for fun or engaging in relationships without a clear sense of direction. For him, relationships should be intentional from the very beginning, with both parties having a shared understanding of long-term commitment.
Expanding on his belief, Layi dismissed the idea of a “girlfriend phase,” noting that he prefers to approach relationships with a mindset of purpose and clarity rather than trial and error. He stated:
“I do not believe in the concept of a girlfriend. I believe in partnership. I do not believe in that phase of girlfriends. I start with courtship. I have to see the wife in the person from the beginning.”
The comedian emphasized that his approach is rooted in evaluating compatibility early on.
Rather than spending time in casual or uncertain relationships, he focuses on whether the connection has the potential to evolve into a lifelong partnership.
Layi further explained that from the moment he becomes involved with someone, he is already thinking ahead considering values, alignment, and the possibility of marriage. This perspective, he noted, helps him avoid unnecessary emotional investment in relationships that are not built to last.
His comments have since sparked conversations online, with many people weighing in on the balance between intentional dating and allowing relationships to develop naturally over time.
