Donald Trump was abruptly escorted out of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton after gunfire erupted inside the ballroom on Saturday night
Panic spread across the venue as attendees scrambled for safety, diving under tables and seeking cover while several shots rang out.
According to Trump, a Secret Service agent was struck at close range but survived due to wearing a bulletproof vest.
Guests were held inside the ballroom for nearly an hour as security forces worked to secure the area before eventually clearing the hall.
The suspect, said to be armed with multiple weapons, was taken into custody at the scene by Secret Service personnel. Authorities have identified him as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. He is expected to face charges in court on Monday.
Reports indicate Allen was staying at the hotel and worked part-time as a teacher in California. Trump also shared an image of the suspect on his Truth Social platform.
