The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adejare Adeboye has declared that the church will not yield to external pressure regarding the status of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as an ordained minister

Speaking during the church’s annual workers’ meeting, Adeboye made it clear that he would not allow outsiders to dictate how he threats members of the church, whom he descries as “his children.”

He explained that Oluremi Tinubu was ordained as an Assistant Pastor more than ten years ago, long before her husband, Bola Ahmed uTinubu, showed any intention of running for the presidency.

According to him, there are three specific offences within RCCG doctrine that could prevent an individual from being ordained, stressing that the First Lady has not committed any of them.

He explained that while she remains an Assistant Pastor, her progression to a full pastor is subject to certain conditions yet to be fulfilled, not any disciplinary issue.

Adeboye also addressed concerns surrounding her ordination, noting that his understanding of the Bible does not support the notion that a woman can compel her husband to act.

He reiterated the scriptural position that husbands are instructed to love their wives, while wives are enjoined to submit to their husbands.

Responding to critics who claim the church has remained silent on Nigeria’s challenges, Adeboye said such views stem from ignorance of RCCG’s humanitarian efforts.

He described himself as “a man under authority,” adding that if directed, he would not hesitate to publicly demonstrate, even to the extent of carrying a placard.

He highlighted the church’s intervention programmes, including what he described as one of the largest Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the country, where displaced children are supported through university education.

According to him, RCCG’s contributions often go unnoticed because the church does not seek publicity.

Reaffirming his stance, Adeboye said he would continue to defend members of the church and handle internal matters in line with its doctrines, rather than yielding to public opinion.
