Veteran Nollywood actor Roy De Nani has shared heartbreaking details about the personal tragedies and hardship he has faced over the years, revealing how financial struggles and lack of support led to devastating losses in his family
Speaking on the Where Is The Lie Podcast, the actor
recounted how poverty prevented him from saving his children during a critical medical emergency.
According to him, both his son and daughter died because he was unable to afford the blood transfusions they urgently needed.
“I lost my son and daughter because we needed blood transfusions so they could continue but there was no money to buy it and they died,” he said.
Roy De Nani also disclosed that he lost another family member, a brother from the same father, adding that he received no support or sympathy from colleagues in the film industry at the time.
“I had a brother of the same father; I lost him and no single actor showed up,” he said.
When asked whether any Nollywood colleagues reached out to him during those difficult periods, he responded that none did.
“No way; they never came. They were not touched,” he said.
Despite his painful experiences, the veteran actor said he has continued working in the industry, still involved in acting and scriptwriting.
“I still act. I still write scripts too,” he added.
He explained that while he is not comfortable asking for financial help publicly, what he truly desires is a chance to rebuild his career and regain stability.
“I am the shy type. I just believe everyone has what they are suffering from one thing or the other. I want to be re-established. That is all,” he said.
Roy De Nani is among the early Nollywood pioneers who contributed to the growth of Nigeria’s film industry in its formative years.
