The Nigeria Police leadership has expressed concern over the growing presence of Point of Sale (POS) operators around police formations, warning that the trend has become increasingly problematic.
According to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, the situation has reached a level that raises serious operational and ethical concerns within the force. Authorities believe that the concentration of POS terminals near police facilities has created opportunities for misconduct and financial irregularities.
“INGENPOL has observed with utmost dismay the alarming rate at which Point of Sale (POS) operators are increasingly conducting transactions in/around the vicinity of police formations.”
The statement reflects the police leadership’s unease over what it describes as a developing pattern that could undermine transparency and accountability within security environments.
The directive signals a tightening stance on informal financial activities around sensitive security infrastructure.
