The Anambra State Police Command has detained an Assistant Superintendent of Police following a viral video showing the officer allegedly threatening to shoot anyone who filmed him while carrying out his duties
This was disclosed on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement released in Awka.
According to the statement, the command condemned the officer’s conduct after reviewing the video making rounds online.
“The police wish to address the public on a video currently circulating on social media, in which a police officer was seen threatening violence and engaging in conduct unbecoming of a member of the Nigeria Police.
“Following a review of the video, the command identified and arrested the officer involved. The officer is an Assistant Superintendent of Police serving in the command.”
Ikenga further explained that disciplinary action has already begun against the officer in line with the ethics and standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
He also revealed that the ASP has undergone drug testing as investigators work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure a transparent investigation.
