Actress Jaiye Kuti has clarified that a social media post about the screening schedule of her film, Jaiye Monje The Anniversary, was not aimed at Ajosepo 2: The Gathering or its producer, Bolaji Ogunmola
The actress had earlier voiced frustration over the timing allocated to her movie in cinemas.
Posting a screenshot of the film’s schedule on Instagram, she questioned why a movie that had been in cinemas for only a week was already being given less favourable showtimes.
“AJOSEPOWA tifebaje !!! I’m just a week old at the cinemas, and I’m already out of showtime? Hmmm 🤔 Please, who comes to the cinema at this time of the day to watch movies? #cinemaowners”. she said.
Her use of the word “Ajosepo” raised eyebrows, with some users interpreting it as a swipe at Ajosepo 2: The Gathering, which recently premiered.
Responding to the speculation, Jaiye explained that her statement had been taken out of context.
“I wrote in my language Yoruba AJOSEPO which could mean many things, what I meant was our collaboration with cinemas, yet some people twisted it to mean a movie”.
She stressed that her complaint was solely about the scheduling of her film and had nothing to do with any fellow filmmaker or competing project.
Her clarification follows comments from actress and producer Bolaji Ogunmola, who recently dismissed allegations that Ajosepo 2: The Gathering was receiving preferential treatment in cinemas or affecting the performance of other movies.
Bolaji insisted her focus remains on promoting her own production rather than undermining anyone else’s work.
