Train accident claims three lives in Agbor

Three people have been confirmed de.ad following a train incident the Warri–Itakpe rail corridor in Delta State, after a serious accident disrupted operations on Monday, June 8, 2026.

The incident happened in Agbor, Delta State, where  coaches on the Warri–Itakpe rail line went off the track. The Nigerian Railway Corporation said that four coaches were affected in the incident.

Emergency teams were immediately deployed to the scene, with rescue efforts carried out alongside other relevant authorities. The corporation said all passengers aboard the train have since been located and accounted for.

Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the development in an official statement that also acknowledged fatalities and ongoing response efforts.

He stated:

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a serious train accident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor at Agbor, Delta State.

‘Rescue and emergency response operations were immediately activated. All passengers on board have now been accounted for. Sadly, three fatalities have been confirmed at this time.”

Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the derailment, while support is being extended to those affected.
