The National Assembly was thrown into brief panic on Wednesday after a fire broke out in the Senate wing of the complex
The incident reportedly occurred at Hearing Room 107 within the National Assembly premises.

A video from the scene showed staff members quickly responding with fire extinguishers in an attempt to put out the flames.
The fire broke out shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) concluded the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, who was nominated to represent the North-East on the commission’s board.

No injuries or casualties were reported at the time of filing this report.
According to TVC, preliminary indications suggested the fire may have been caused by a microwave left on in a kitchen area.
Following the incident, journalists covering proceedings were reportedly instructed by committee officials to delete photos and videos captured during the outbreak.
