Lil Wayne and his partner have called it quits
The rapper, 43, and his rumored former partner are no longer engaged, he revealed in a post shared Sunday, July 5, while addressing his recent concert cancellation in Maine.
“I would like to clear something up: No, I’m not engaged,” he said toward the end of the Instagram video.
TMZ first identified his fiancée as a woman in her 20s back in May, attributing the news to an unnamed source, and later as a 23-year-old woman named Madi Cannon. Neither Lil Wayne, Cannon, nor his reps ever confirmed the relationship or engagement.
“I had a beautiful thing going with an amazing person, but, obviously, due to the validity of the temperature of today’s crazy world and culture, I considered, I don’t want to be such a burden on such an amazing person,” he said. “So, we decided to part. Sucks.”
Wayne has had a long dating history that has included multiple engagements, including with the singer Nivea and the actress Lauren London, both of whom he shares children with. He has been married once, to his former high school sweetheart and mother of his first child, Toya Johnson. The pair divorced in 2006.
In addition to sharing the “personal content,” the rapper addressed his recent show cancellation after failing to appear at his concert in Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday, June 30. While he apologized and announced the show would be rescheduled to July 28, he did not give an explanation at the time.
