Jim Iyke believes there is some truth to the popular saying that “school na sc.am,” saying his own life experiences convinced him that classroom education is only one part of the journey to success.
The Nollywood actor recalled meeting one of his former lecturers, who has since passed away, years after leaving school. He said it was clear by then that he had become more financially successful than the lecturer.
According to him, he would not have reached that level of success if he had relied solely on what he was taught in the classroom.
“There is some truth to ‘school na sc@m’. I am doing better than all my lecturers. I once met one of my lecturer, who is now late, on a plane and we both knew who was doing better. If had taken everything him taught me verbatim and applied it in my pursuit, I wouldn’t have been successful.
I will tell you what worked. It is what the uncles, the traders who barely went to school, told me. They told me go left at all time and never right. The father who told me to forget theories and know when to be ruth”l£ss, conform or stand my grounds and what books to read.
Some of the wealthiest men in the world did not get it from classroom. How many of them have PhD? I have a PhD holder who works for me. We can argue all we want but school is partly sc@m….”
Jim Iyke said the lessons that shaped his life came from people outside the classroom, including traders, older men and father figures who taught him practical ways to navigate life and business. He explained that their advice helped him know when to be tough, when to adapt, when to stand his ground and even what books to read.
He added that many of the world’s wealthiest people did not build their success through formal education alone, maintaining that academic qualifications do not automatically determine how far a person will go in life.
