Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has lost his mother, Mrs Mary Amaechi
She passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 89.

In a statement issued by the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi Media Office, the late matriarch was described as a pillar of her family who fostered love, peace, and unity among her children and relatives.
The statement also noted that she was a respected community women’s leader and a devoted Christian whose faith in God remained steadfast throughout her life.
Statement reads:
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of the beloved mother of Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Vice Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Late Mrs. Mary Amaechi, who departed peacefully on Thursday, 16th July, 2026. She was 89.
“Late Mrs. Mary Amaechi was a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace, and unity. She was a community women’s leader and Christian leader whose faith in God was firm and resolute.
“She was loved and highly respected in her community and will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for those around her and beyond.”
The statement added that Amaechi and his family are grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and condolences they have received following her passing.
