Parenting can come with unexpected moments, and for Nollywood actress Blessing Obasi Nze, one particular experience with her son became an emotional lesson for her.
While speaking with Ife Agoro, the actress talked about a day her son became upset after she left him with the nanny while she went to shower. The situation escalated when he started hurting himself, leaving her to react in a way that later made her emotional.
She explained that she struggled with the moment because she never wanted to hurt her child, but she also had to respond when his actions became dangerous.
“I cried the day I smacked my son because he was hitting his head against the wall. He was angry because I left him with the nanny while I went to shower.
At some point, he started hitting his head against the floor. Sometimes, gentle parenting doesn’t work.
After I rebuked him, I spoke to him positively”, she said.
For Blessing, the experience showed her that parenting is not always about following one approach. She believes there are moments when a parent has to correct a child firmly while still showing love and offering reassurance afterward.
The moment reflects the challenges many parents face while trying to balance discipline, patience, and understanding when raising their children.
