No matter where football takes him, Victor Boniface says one thing never changes. He always makes sure people know he’s Nigerian.
The Super Eagles striker said that’s something he does everywhere he goes, from the dressing room to everyday conversations. For him, being Nigerian is a source of pride, and it’s not something he keeps quiet about. He went on to say that if life gave him another chance, he would still want to come back as a Nigerian.
Speaking on The Culture League podcast, Boniface said:
“In every dressing room and everywhere I go, I make it clear that I’m a proud Nigerian. In my next life, I’d want to be Nigerian again.”
He also pointed to the growing global influence of Nigerian music, saying some of the country’s biggest Afrobeats stars have helped shape how Nigeria is viewed abroad.
According to him, mentioning names like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Rema often changes the conversation, with people showing more interest and respect because of the impact the artists have made around the world.
“Europeans even give you a little more respect when you tell them Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Rema are Nigerians”, he stated.
