A government offering akara, kulikuli is a sign of failure - Sowore

Omoyele Sowore has criticised the Tinubu administration’s approach to addressing the country’s economic challenges, saying a government that begins presenting small-scale trading as a solution to national problems has lost direction.

Speaking during an interview, the AAC presidential candidate said Nigerians deserve policies that create opportunities and improve living conditions rather than what he described as survival strategies.

Referring to recent comments made by first lady, Oluremi Tinubu encouraging Nigerians to consider businesses such as selling akara, kulikuli and roasted corn, Sowore stated that such suggestions should not replace serious economic planning.

“Any regime you see that starts picking kulikuli, Agbado and akara as their policy, you’ll know that regime is already on their way out and we owe them a duty to get them out so that the country can breathe and the poor can breathe and our country will not be operating three fake budgets,” he said.

He maintained that governments should be focused on creating jobs, supporting businesses and strengthening the economy instead of asking citizens to rely on petty trading to survive.

Sowore also questioned the administration’s budget implementation, insisting that Nigerians are facing increasing hardship despite repeated government spending plans.

He said the country’s economic challenges require practical solutions that address inflation, unemployment and the rising cost of living rather than temporary measures.
