Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state

The directive was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, following a meeting of the Osun State Security Council chaired by the governor.

According to Alimi, the decision was reached after the council reviewed the security situation in the state. As part of the directive, Governor Adeleke instructed the police to halt the collection of levies by the NURTW at all motor parks across Osun.

He also directed security agencies to arrest anyone presenting themselves as NURTW officials or executives while carrying out union activities in any motor park.

“I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I’m not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbing public peace,” the governor said.

To ensure compliance, Adeleke ordered the immediate establishment of a rapid response squad made up of all security agencies operating in the state.

The statement further noted that security commanders present at the meeting assured the governor of their commitment to enforcing the directive.
