Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omana Ortiz, widely known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has officially been sworn in as a senator in Colombia after securing election on a platform advocating greater rights and protections for adult-content creators
The 33-year-old took her oath on Monday in Bogotá as a representative of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition. Before entering politics, Ortiz worked as a journalist and later joined the adult entertainment industry in 2017, leaving the profession two years later.

Representing Colombia’s Norte de Santander region after her March election victory, Ortiz said she intends to champion legal recognition and workplace protections for people in the adult-content industry, insisting many are vulnerable to exploitation and lack adequate safeguards.
In one of her campaign messages, she said, “These women have been unprotected by the state because, due to misinformation, prejudice and double standards, no one has declared to regulate it.”
Addressing criticism over her former career, Ortiz questioned why her past should disqualify her from public office.

“Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?” she asked.
According to Ortiz, her previous profession exposed her to discrimination and social inequality, experiences she believes will shape her work as a lawmaker.
“My experience allowed me to understand inequality, the struggle for freedom and the popular economy, arguments that I now promise to bring directly into legislative debate,” she said, adding, “The problem is that society consumes adult films but denies us the possibility of speaking in spaces of power.”
In addition to advocating for adult-content creators, Ortiz has pledged to campaign for better mental health services and tougher efforts to combat se.xual abuse.

Celebrating her electoral success, she said, “I feel embraced by my people,” adding, “There is a political transformation underway that still has a long way to go but the important thing is that it has already begun in some way.”
