YCee has clarified his position on the “Olodo Uprising” conversation, saying many people completely misunderstood what he was trying to say giving them the wrong impression of his educational background.
According to the rapper, he never came up with the phrase in the first place, but the discussion that followed made some people see him as classist or elitist because they assumed he had a higher level of education.
In a recent interview with Guardian Life, Ycee said:
“The whole Olodo Uprising frenzy, I didn’t coin the phrase. I feel a lot of people missed my point and are trying to make it seem as though I was classist of elitist because I have some level of education. Mind you I just have my school cert o. I don’t have a university degree.”
YCee also pointed out that he did not even attend university. Reflecting on his own experience, he said he struggled academically at one point during secondary school and was unable to meet the cut-off mark to study Computer Science at UNILAG, even though that was the course he wanted.
He stated:
“It got to some point in SS2 when I couldn’t read anymore, I was like I’m done. I had wanted to study computer science, but I couldn’t meet the cut off to study in UNILAG but now they’ve reduced cut off maybe if I had written now I’d have gotten computer science.”
