Ajax have secured the signing of Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan, with an option to make the move permanent for up to €22 million
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that both clubs reached an agreement which sees Ajax pay a loan fee while taking responsibility for the forward’s full salary.

The deal also includes a non-compulsory purchase clause worth around €22 million, with Wolves set to receive additional bonuses if Ajax qualify for European competition next season.
The Dutch club identified Arokodare as their top attacking target this summer, making him their headline signing of the transfer window.
The move ends the 25-year-old’s short stay in England after he joined Wolves from Belgian outfit Genk last summer in a deal reportedly worth around €26 million.
Although Wolves endured a difficult campaign that ended in relegation, Arokodare finished as the club’s joint-highest Premier League scorer with three goals and one assist. He also found the net six times across all competitions.
The Super Eagles striker was also linked with Fiorentina, Genoa and Trabzonspor, but Ajax ultimately won the race for his signature.
His exit from Molineux had appeared likely after reports claimed Wolves’ new manager informed him he was no longer part of the club’s plans. There were also reports of uncertainty surrounding his future during the closing stages of his time at the club.
A move to Amsterdam now gives Arokodare the opportunity to relaunch his career at one of Europe’s biggest clubs while returning to continental football.
The Nigerian forward becomes the latest player from his country to represent Ajax and will be hoping to rediscover the goalscoring form that made him one of Belgium’s standout strikers before his move to the Premier League. He is expected to play a significant role in Ajax’s domestic and European campaigns during the 2026-27 season.
