Seun Kuti made an unexpected exit from Peller and Jarvis’ white wedding after a joke by the event’s MC appeared to strike a nerve.
According to videos from the event, the MC made a remark suggesting that Wizkid is bigger than Fela, a comment that did not sit well with Seun. Rather than stay, the Afrobeat musician turned to those around him and said, “We are in the wrong place,” before walking out of the venue.
The moment quickly drew attention because of Seun’s long-standing stance whenever comparisons are made between his father, the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, and modern music star Wizkid.
Seun has repeatedly defended Fela’s legacy and has previously clashed with Wizkid and his fans over similar debates about their influence and place in music history.
While the wedding continued, Seun’s quiet but firm exit became one of the memorable moments from the ceremony, with his brief statement, “We are in the wrong place,” making it clear he had no intention of staying after the comment.
