Adeleke alleges EFCC plot to freeze Osun Govt account

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to freeze the bank accounts of the state government and some top officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election

The allegation was made in a statement released on Wednesday in Osogbo by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, on behalf of the governor.

According to the statement, the state government received intelligence suggesting that the EFCC intends to block access to all official Osun State Government accounts in the days leading up to the election.

Adeleke further alleged that the anti-graft agency also plans to target the accounts of key government officials, warning that such a move would disrupt government operations.

He argued that the alleged action was aimed at crippling the activities of his administration before the governorship poll.

“The plot to freeze the state government accounts is meant to paralyse government activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election,” the statement read.

The governor maintained that the EFCC has no constitutional or legal authority to freeze the accounts of a state government, insisting that any such action would amount to an abuse of power and could negatively affect governance during the election period.

He added that the reported plan poses a serious threat to the smooth running of his administration as the state prepares for the governorship election.
