Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has joined Trabzonspor after arriving in Istanbul to complete his transfer to the Turkish Super Lig club
The 34-year-old touched down wearing a Trabzonspor shirt and received a rousing welcome from hundreds of supporters at Atatürk Airport. His arrival came after the club announced that he would pass through Istanbul before heading to Trabzon to finalise the move.
Ahead of his trip, Salah sent a message to the club’s supporters in a video posted on Trabzonspor’s social media pages, saying: “Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you. See you very soon.”
Salah is available on a free transfer after bringing his nine-year stay at Liverpool to an end this summer. During his spell at Anfield, he netted 257 goals in 442 appearances, winning two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
The former Premier League Player of the Season and Golden Boot winner attracted interest from several clubs, including Turkish rivals Beşiktaş, before opting for Trabzonspor.
The move is expected to be one of the biggest in Trabzonspor’s recent history as the club seeks to build on its 2022 Turkish league triumph, its first title since the dominant period that saw it win six championships between 1976 and 1984.
