Actor, Tayo Faniran has reacted to reports that some soldiers were arrested for allegedly working as bouncers during the wedding of content creators Peller and Jarvis, saying hunger is pushing many Nigerians into difficult situations.
Reacting to the news, Faniran said the soldiers should not be blamed, arguing that economic hardship has forced many people to seek extra sources of income despite the expectations attached to wearing the military uniform.
He also suggested that the fear many Nigerians have of the military has helped political leaders avoid accountability, adding that meaningful change in the country would begin when uniformed personnel stand with the people.
He wrote:
“Nobody should blame the Soldiers doing bouncers for civilians, na hunger dey make everybody lose steeze, ‘respect the uniform’ make dem die of starvation? I’m happy it’s going that way for them though, because if not for the fear of what the Army will do to the people, every political leader for respect themselves and fear the people, the day Nigeria will be liberated, the revolution will start from the uniform men.”
