The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has begun moves to remove illegal structures and tackle encroachment at the Olusosun Dumpsite as part of efforts to protect the facility and ensure efficient waste management operations
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this on Tuesday, saying the planned removal of shanties and other illegal structures was necessary to safeguard the dumpsite.
According to him, the exercise began on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with the issuance of removal notices to owners and occupants of illegal structures identified within the facility.
Gbadegesin said the affected owners and occupants had been directed to remove the structures and vacate the area within a stipulated period, in accordance with the law.
He explained that protecting the integrity and accessibility of the dumpsite was critical to maintaining safe and efficient waste management operations across Lagos State.
The LAWMA boss warned that encroachment and other illegal activities within the facility could undermine operations and interfere with the effective management of waste.
He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to maintaining an orderly and organised environment through sustainable waste management practices.
The exercise forms part of LAWMA’s efforts to preserve the Olusosun Dumpsite as a functional waste management facility while addressing activities that could compromise its operations.
