Nollywood actor Joseph Okechukwu has criticised the growing presence of Chinese businesses in Nigeria, particularly the role of the Federal Government and some Yoruba landowners in an attempt to weaken Igbo businesses.
According to Okechukwu, Chinese nationals have been brought into the country in large numbers, with the intention of creating stronger competition for businesses owned by people from the South-East.
In a post he shared, he said:
“The Federal Government brought in Chinese people into Nigeria in masses so that they can destroy Igbo businesses.
“Yorubas are even giving their lands free to the Chinese just to destroy Igbo businesses. They don’t know us Igbos. Manufacturing companies will soon start springing up everywhere in the South East.”
He stated that the situation would not stop the South-East from developing its own manufacturing base.
He believes the region’s response will be to build more businesses and manufacturing companies, rather than allow competition from foreign businesses to determine its economic future.
