Rev. Isaac Omolehin, founder of Word Assembly Ministries, has said he and his family have been staying away from their home and church camp in Idofian, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, after security operatives warned of a possible b.andit a.ttack.
Omolehin said he, his wife and their children have been moving between different locations because they have not been told it is safe to return.
In a statement, Omolehin said:
“I have a house I can’t enter. I have a car I can’t ride. I have to hide myself from the public. If I sleep here today, I’ll sleep somewhere else tomorrow. I’m homeless with my wife and children,” he said.
He said the situation began on May 31 when police officers arrived at the camp in the early hours and asked residents to leave after receiving information about a possible attack.
More than 100 people left the camp, which houses an orphanage, schools, a hospital, an old people’s home and a rehabilitation centre.
“The school cannot open, the hospital is not functioning, and the patients and nurses all ran for their lives,” he said.
Omolehin said the b.andits later arrived at the camp but did not find anyone there.
“They came, the b.andits, but they didn’t meet anybody.
“Three days after the a.ttack on my camp here in Kwara, my village in Kogi State was also a.ttacked, and my people were k!lled,” he said.
Omolehin said the buildings at the camp were not destroyed, but thieves later entered the abandoned facility and took some belongings.
“The kidnappers did not come to steal refrigerators, fans or mattresses. They came for human beings,” he said.
He also raised concerns about the children at the orphanage, some of whom he said had been brought there by the government.
“Some of the children in the orphanage were brought to us by the government. Even if they say they don’t care about the rest of us, what about the children they entrusted to us?”.he asked.
