Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has warned Nigerian men against getting into relationships with women who have no source of income but expect their partners to foot their bills.
Adeyanju, speaking about the country’s difficult economic situation, said taking on a financially dependent partner could add more pressure to an already difficult situation.
In a post he shared, he wrote:
“If the devil want to punish you as a man, he will give you a jobless Nigerian babe with high taste,” Adeyanju said.
He continued:
“With the extremely bad economic situation of Nigeria, no one should be relying on another person to pay their bills. The country is too hard for you to add a liability to the list.”
Deji’s message was directed at men, but the wider issue is one of financial independence, especially as many Nigerians struggle to cope with the cost of everyday living.
