Social media commentator Daniel Regha has taken a swipe at the political leadership in the South-East while making a pointed reference to Peter Obi.
Regha questioned the idea of Obi being regarded as the most credible politician from the region, suggesting that such a description would itself raise questions about the calibre of leaders in the South-East.
In a post he shared, he wrote:
“If Obi is the most credible politician in the south-east, then the region lacks credible leader.”
The wording was less a compliment to Obi than a way of questioning the credibility attached to him. Rather than presenting Obi’s standing as evidence of strong leadership in the region, Regha used the claim to make a critical point about both Obi and the wider political class in the South-East.
In other words, Regha’s argument rests on the idea that if Obi is considered the best the region has to offer politically, then the standard for credible leadership may not be particularly high.
