Rufai Oseni challenges Peter Obi’s claim he won 2023 election

Journalist Rufai Oseni has questioned Peter Obi’s claim that he won the 2023 presidential election, saying such a statement should be backed by clear evidence.

Obi, who contested the election on the platform of the Labour Party, recently maintained that he was the actual winner of the poll. But during a discussion on Arise News, Oseni said claims of that nature should come with figures and documentation to support them.

He said:

“Mr Peter Obi, it is best you do not say things if you do not have the evidence. I must have to repeat it, because when you say that I won the election, you don’t have the evidence to back it up. Then people do not take what you say seriously.”

Oseni said he found it difficult to understand how Obi could confidently claim victory without having detailed records from the election to support his position.

He questioned whether Obi and his team had carried out their own analysis of the results from the various polling units and collation centres.

“Didn’t you have back-end analysis of result by result before you make the claim? Where are all your own data spreadsheets on the back end that assert your claim? Where is your own back-end collation that asserts your claim?”,  he stated.

Oseni believes that one won an election is not enough to establish that claim. He argued that the figures and records from the election should be available if they are being used to support such a conclusion.

“So it is very spurious to say I won something, but when they say where is the evidence, no evidence. I mean you might feel the urge that you won but if you don’t have the evidence to back it up then you didn’t win”, he added.
