I still have sickle cell crisis - Adekunle Gold

Singer Adekunle Gold is putting money behind the fight against sickle cell disease, with a $20,000 fund set up to support organisations working to improve the lives of people living with the condition.

The initiative, supported by PESA, will provide financial assistance to four organisations in Nigeria, Canada, Ghana and the United Kingdom. Each group works to support people affected by sickle cell disease and help them access the care, resources and support they need.

The beneficiaries are the Sickle Cell Advocacy Management Initiative in Nigeria, Not Just You in Canada, Sickle Life in Ghana, and It Takes A Village in the United Kingdom.

Adekunle Gold says the fund is a starting point, recognising that tackling sickle cell disease requires more than the efforts of one person or organisation.

In a post he shared, he said:

“The fight against sickle cell is bigger than any one person or foundation. There’s still so much work to be done, and so many lives waiting to be changed. We cannot do it alone

“With PESA’s support, we’re starting with twenty thousand dollars.”

The funding will help the selected organisations continue their work within the sickle cell community, supporting efforts to improve the everyday lives of patients and their families.

While the initial fund stands at $20,000, the aim is to contribute to the wider work already being done by groups supporting people living with sickle cell disease.

Adekunle Gold continues to show his commitment to the sickle cell community through his advocacy and financial support. His $20,000 fund indicates that the fight goes beyond raising awareness, extending to supporting organisations doing the work on the ground. As a sickle cell warrior, he is helping to keep the focus on the people living with the condition and the need for continued support.
