Mecca Stampede: Nigeria Records More Death, Now 145

    The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, on Sunday
    confirmed that 145 Nigerians have died so far in the Mecca stampede which occurred
    in September.
    Briefing journalists in Mecca, NAHCON’s commissioner in
    charge of Planning, Research, Information and Library Services, Saleh Okenwa,
    said more bodies of Nigerians have been discovered which now make the total
    number of dead Nigerian pilgrims to be 145.
    He also said some of those 214 who were declared missing have
    been discovered dead, so the number of missing people at the moment remains 165.
    Many others are also at different Saudi hospitals receiving treatments.
    Even though Saudi Authorities gave the figure of those who died
    during the stampede to be 769 pilgrims, it is believed that over 1000 pilgrims died
    during the stampede, with Iran recording the highest causality of losing over
    400 pilgrims in the stampede.
