Monday Motivation: Don’t Join The Bandwagon, Be A Brand

The market place is crowded with skilled and talented
people. You have a responsibility to make sure that you standout and be
desirable. Instead of doing just that, you are busy complaining about how other
people are getting ahead, how some other people are being rewarded and you are
not, how some people are being paid higher than you are, how other people’s
business is doing better than yours.

It’s your responsibility to ensure that you are standing out
and are desirable by many. Have you ever asked yourself how you can be
desirable and be different from others? The simple thing that most people want
to do is to join the crowd to do the same thing that they do and expect a
different result. You can’t plant maize and expect to harvest cocoa. You must
    be different and deliberate.

My challenge is this: you must become your brand, if you
want to succeed in this crowded world that we presently live in, personal
branding is not optional, it’s a must. Let me explain how to go about branding
yourself and become desirable as simple as it can be explained. Personal
branding has become a buzz word and yet many people don’t understand it and how
    to go about it.
Personal branding doesn’t start with your image, its starts
with your personality. Your personal brand is an expression of who you are.
First, you must have a thorough understanding of your
personality. You must ask yourself, who am I? What is my personality? What
makes me unique? This is where your personal branding starts from. Your ability
to discover your real self and personality will make you come out unique and
authentic, and there is no brand without authenticity.
Next, highlight your strengths, motivation, values and have
a clear vision for your future. A personal brand is a person who is sending a
deliberate signal. What I mean is this, whether you like or not, whether you
have taken a conscious step to be a brand, you are already a brand. People have
a certain perception of you but what I am advocating here is that you take
control of how you are perceived; most people undersell themselves because of
how they have packaged themselves. So you have to be aware of your value or
what we call your value proposition. When people come in contact with you, what
    do they stand to gain?
Lastly, now that you have a clear understanding of your
personality, strengths and values. You are now aware of the value you carry and
what your prospects stand to benefit from dealing with, you must strategically
present yourself to the public. You have to create a platform for your brand.
The social media platforms have made this easy and accessible to everyone. If
you already have a presence on any of the popular social networks, I want to
ask how do you utilize it to further enhance your brand and what do you put out
for the public to consume? If you have been treating your social media platform
casually, you must start from today taking it seriously because that’s the only
way customers, employers, and the rest of the public come in contact with you
before having to meet with you live.
You must also decide on how you would like to be perceived
and accepted, don’t leave that to chance. You don’t want the market to
    determine your worth for you.
More on this in my subsequent posts.
Remain creative and be true to yourself, until we meet next
    week.
